Sports Report - Rounders Yr8
The Yr 8 girls travelled to Haygrove for their first tournament of the term tonight. They nervously went into bat against Haygrove in the first game and looked a little 'rusty'. Some were hesitant in their running and this meant the scoring was slow with just a couple of half rounders in the first 10 balls and 2 players called out.
The team woke up a little and made the best of some over throws to score a total of 3. Whilst fielding some lovely bowling kept the scoring chances down but again indecision, some inaccurate throwing and not yet 'clicking' as a unit allowed the Haygrove team to score 7. A disappointed group listened well and decided to bat and run 'harder' to keep the score growing and in the field they would not panic-throw but would take the time to make good decisions and execute good throws. The second game v Robert Blake saw the group gel a little more and a good score of 7 rounders was scored as the girls capitalised on Robert Blake's inexperience in the field. They were also able to keep the Robert Blake score to only 3 as their decision making developed.
The next game v a mixed Yr 7/8/9 KAS team helped the girls grow in confidence. Their batting came together with several having huge hits over or through the KAS fielders -8 scored. Fielding saw the girls' concentration pay off and they were able to adapt to left handed batters, keeping KAS to another low score and winning 8-3. So despite a loss v Haygrove the girls came 2nd at this tournament and showed that they have huge potential to win this age group- especially if they can all train together to ensure they 'click' and don't get in each others way.
A good start..
